Resurrection opens up God’s forgiveness for humanity. |
Reflection on Today’s Readings, Tuesday of Easter Octave, April 2nd, 2024 Texts: Acts 2:36-41; Psalm 33:4-5,18-20,22; John 20:11-18
There are revelations by the resurrection of Jesus Christ. St. Peter mentions them in his address, today. First, the resurrection reveals that Jesus Christ is the Lord and the Christ. In the words of St. Peter: "Let all the house of Israel know assuredly that God has made him both Lord and Christ, this Jesus whom you crucified." Being Lord He deserves our worship. Being the Christ He is the one anointed to save us. Hence, our salvation is in Him.
Resurrection also reveals that there is forgiveness of sins for those who believe in the name of Jesus. St. Peter says, “Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins”. Resurrection opens up God’s forgiveness for humanity. God reconciles us to Himself through the risen Christ.
The word of the Lord is faithful
Resurrection reveals that Jesus Christ is able to fulfil His promise. Hence, we know that He shall give us Holy Spirit as He has promised to do for us. St. Peter says, “and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. For the promise is to you and to your children and to all that are far off, every one whom the Lord our God calls to him." Today’s Psalm says “The word of the Lord is faithful, and all his works to be trusted”.
Today’s gospel reading reminds us that God calls us to witness and proclaim the message of resurrection. We read, “Jesus said to her, ‘Do not hold me, for I have not yet ascended to the Father, but go to my brethren and say to them, I am ascending to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God.’" We are to proclaim the message both in deeds and words.
Prayer
O God, who have bestowed on us paschal remedies, endow your people with heavenly gifts, so that, possessed of perfect freedom, they may rejoice in heaven over what gladdens them now on earth. Amen (Collect)
