The Word Of God Restores Man Back To Life

Reflection on Today’s Readings, Monday of 4th Week of Lent B, March 11th, 2024
Texts: Isaiah 65:17-21; Psalm 30:2,4-6,11-13; John 4:43-54

The message, today, is that faith in the word of God restores man back to life. This is clear in today’s gospel reading. St. John says, “Jesus said to him, ‘Go; your son will live.’ The man believed the word that  Jesus spoke to him and went his way. As he was going down, his servants met him and told him that his son was living.” When we believe the word of God and live according to it, we have life in abundance. Hence, we are to live by the word of God, that we may have life.

God transforms and makes of us a new creation by His word.  Today’s first reading speaks of new creation. We read, “Thus says the  Lord: Behold, I create new heavens and a new earth; and the former things shall not be remembered or come into mind.” This reminds us that Lent is to make out of us new creation. We should not be afraid to change, for God does not take our past into consideration.

God’s plan for us is life full of joy

We are to live by God’s word, that we may become new creation.
God’s plan for us is life full of joy. He says, “But be glad and rejoice for ever in that which I create; for behold, I create Jerusalem a rejoicing, and her people a joy. I will rejoice in Jerusalem, and be glad in my people; no more shall be heard in it the sound of weeping and the cry of distress.” We can only attain such a life by faith in the word of God and living according to it.

Prayer

O God, who renew the world through mysteries beyond all telling, grant, we pray, that your Church may be guided by your eternal design and not be deprived of your help in this present age. Amen
