A Journey through the History of our Salvation
Everyday is a day of salvation.

Reflection on Today’s Readings, Saturday of 34th Week in Ordinary Time, Year I, December 2nd, 2023
Texts: Daniel 7:15-27; Canticle Daniel 3:82-87; Luke 21:34-36

Today completes the current liturgical year. This means we are completing a journey through the history of our salvation. We began with the expectation of a Messiah, after the fall of our first parents. We witnessed His coming, his ministry, suffering, death, resurrection and ascension to heaven and the life after ascension. What it takes to be saved has been fulfilled in us. By evening of today, 6 pm, we will begin another liturgical year. Just as earth journeys round the Sun, we journey round Jesus Christ. He is the centre of our life as Sun is the centre of the planet.

Today Jesus Christ makes us to see the reason to continue active and conscious participation in the liturgical year. He says, “But watch at all times, praying that you may have strength to escape all these things that will take place, and to stand before the Son of man.” We need to make Jesus Christ the centre of our life throughout our life on earth. This will help us not to be weighed down by dissipation, pleasure and cares of this life. If we have not been serious with our commitment to Christ, salvation is still available today. Everyday is a day of salvation.

The kingdom of God is sure and ever lasting

We learn from today’s first reading that the kingdom of God is sure and ever lasting. We read, “And the kingdom and the dominion and the greatness of the kingdoms under the whole heaven shall be given to the people of the saints of the Most High; their kingdom shall be an everlasting kingdom, and all dominions shall serve and obey them.” This brings to mind the words of our Lord: “Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth” (Mt. 5:5).

Prayer

God our Father, we thank You for bringing us to the end of another liturgical year, may its fruits endure in our lives. Amen
