Reflection on Today's Readings, Monday of 16th Week in Ordinary Time Year II, 21st July, 2020
Texts: Mic. 7:14-15.18-20; Ps. 85:2-8; Matt. 12:46-50
The first reading is the prophet's prayer for the people. In the prayer the prophet recalled that only God could shepherd the people and bring them peace. God can only be the shepherd of the people when they listen to him and keep his words. Hence, in the gospel, Jesus Christ says, "For he Whoever does the will of my Father in heaven is my brother, and sister, and mother".
The prophet also recognized that God is merciful, he pardons iniquity and passes over transgressions. God will not abandon the people because of his faithful love for Jacob and Abraham. Jesus Christ has achieved so much for us more than Jacob and Abraham achieved for their descendants. God will always pardon our iniquity and pass over our transgressions because of his eternal love for his Son, our Lord Jesus Christ.
Dear friends, let us always come back to God whenever we go astray. When we come back let us be fervent in doing his will. Like the prophet let us remember to intercede for our society and for one another.
God our Father, pardon our iniquity and help us to do your will always. Amen.
